Quinn Oulton
London-based multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and producer Quinn Oulton has always been a musical explorer. With a foundation deeply rooted in jazz, Quinn possesses a profound understanding of complex musical concepts which he translates seamlessly into the more mainstream genres of contemporary RnB and alt-pop. Expect to hear beautifully constructed classic sounding tracks with hidden layers for appreciators of depth and detail.
Growing up in Wandsworth in south-west London, Quinn’s musical foundation was structured around his formative experiences learning to play the saxophone at World Heart Beat Academy. By the age of twelve, he found himself playing amongst UK jazz pioneers and long-term collaborators including Moses Boyd, Theon Cross and Soweto Kinch, and developing his skills across additional instruments such as the piano, guitar, bass and drums. These experiences moulded him into the highly versatile performer, composer and unique creative voice he is today.
Attending the Royal Academy of Music in London as a young adult with peers such as Hohnen Ford and Jacob Collier cemented his nuanced approach to composition and improvisation. During his studies, Quinn befriended LA-based jazz musicians-turned-songwriters Louis Cole and Geneieve Artadi of cult band KNOWER, who opened his mind to the idea of songwriting and producing his own lyric-based tracks. Within the year, Quinn had taught himself to sing and produce, self-releasing his debut self-titled EP in 2017.
Since launching his career as an artist, Quinn has released a string of EPs and a debut album, ‘Alexithymia’, which have tracked his development from instrumentalist to producer and vocalist, resulting in a truly unique sound. His releases have been supported by Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova, Huey Morgan (6 Music), Sian Eleri & Jack Saunders (BBCR1), Jamie Cullum (BBCR2), Robert Elms (BBC Radio London), BBC Introducing London & Bandcamp, and featured on editorial playlists across Spotify resulting in a monthly listenership of quarter of a million and over ten million streams. His live show has seen him touring the UK and EU, supporting acts such as KNOWER, Elijah Fox, Jamie Cullum, Heatwave, Laura Misch, and Binker & Moses.
A true standout of Quinn’s artistry is his ability to create engaging and intelligent short-form videos from his home studio. These have exploded in popularity over the past few years, resulting in a rapidly growing fan base across social media platforms. This work has seen him collaborating with brands such as Yamaha, BOSS, and Bandlab, with whom he recently released a sample pack of signature sounds.
Quinn Oulton continues to push himself in new directions through his own music, aiming to toe the line between sonic innovation and timeless songwriting.
